In July 2014, the City of Philadelphia and and the Philadephia Housing Authority received a $30 million Choice Neighborhoods Implementation (CNI) grant for the North Central Neighborhood where this project site is located. The 8th and Berks Street site is an integral part of the North Central Choice Neighborhood, as this area has significant problems with vacancy and disinvestment, depressing home values and leading to an increase in crime.
Our goal is to not only stabilize the local neighborhood, but to build a lasting, secure cultural hub in a previously neglected area. The site design entails affordable rental housing development for seniors, consisting of one multi-family building (44,000sf) and 44 residential units, as well as community space and green infrastructure.
