The expansion of Esperanza College included the renovation of 27,000 square feet of vacant warehouse space on the 8-acre campus of Esperanza in Philadelphia. This project was extremely complex in nature and involved intense coordination and phasing.
Numerous energy-saving design strategies were also incorporated into this project. By making improvements to the roof, windows, and HVAC system, we were able to reduce energy utilization throughout the entire 245,000 square foot building by 45%.
Esperanza College has seen an approximately 30% increase in enrollment following the upgrades to their facility. Their improved and evolving curriculum now offers its students specialized science coursework, and the campus also features additional amenities.
Esperanza College opened in 2000 as a branch campus of Eastern University. The campus is located in North Philadelphia’s Hunting Park neighborhood, an area categorized as being “severely distressed” by the New Markets Tax Credit criteria. This three-story facility also houses Esperanza’s headquarters, a workforce development program, a medical practice, Esperanza Charter High School, and Esperanza Charter Middle School.
