This is a DGS Lean project involving the renovation and modernization of the 98,500 sf interior of Manuel Rivero Hall. Included in the project scope are: an addition to expand the seating capacity to the existing Gymnasium, expanding the main entrance, repurposing the existing pool and bowling alley into alternative athletic department functions, as well as facade improvements. The intention is to modernize and improve athletic efficiencies and functionality within the building and to create a more “welcoming” and “inviting” experience from the first view of the building entering campus to the corridors and rooms inside.
The main gymnasium hosts NCAA Division II Basketball games along with other competitive sports and university events. Seating capacity is being increased from approximately 1,600 spaces to 3,000 and the press box is being expanded as well. We are designing state-of-the art audio and visual technology for a variety of events (basketball games, commencement, and other large audience events), a media room, and storage for multiple event types. Accessibility and pedestrian flow are being improved to ensure the security and safety of students, teachers, coaches, and visitors.
An addition off the main entrance lobby will accommodate a ticket sales office and will be a defining element that connects the building to the rest of the campus. On the exterior, murals and other exterior design accents will promote the athletic activities occurring inside the building.
